Yep. This has a plethora of missing missing reasons. He definitely made a scene at the door, and cancelling that night after tempers were riled is sensible. Cancelling the weekly event entirely? That’s not one dude and his weirdo shoe stuff. Just the straw that broke the camel’s back 🙃

was it a 'scene' or was it somebody standing up for themself? We weren't there, when I read it it didn't sound like a 'scene' until the later message from the host. We don't know if it voices were raised or not.

The trouble with these Reddit posts is that you only get one side of the story. And a lot of them, when you dig in, are shading the information given. I do think that his condition merits accomodation. It just feels like, a DnD game is a seated event, so why not use boot covers? Why not carry them?

If they are safe for every workman who comes to my door and even some of the cleaners, they should be ok for him, unless he has a balance issue. Either way, there are means of dealing with this he could carry as standard It sounds like the host offered workaround they were happy with

I've re-read and I'm not seeing anything about real boot covers being offered. do you have more info on reddit? on this it says she offered plastic bags to tie around his shoes. That's much different than the 'booties' made to fit over shoes¬ slip. I could have missed this?

and it may depend where they live. seems like the Canadians in the comments all take off their shoes (which is great) if he's in the USA that's not the norm. It would be considerate of him to get some & keep on hand but it would also be considerate for the Hosts to keep them at the ready

Oh, no, I meant that the proper ones are so easy to slip in a pocket that he should do so as standard when visiting people It might be worth the hosts getting some too, if they can't accommodate people who can't just kick off their shoes My crawling baby inspired me to do a lot of extra mopping

It would be good for him to take this interaction and have a set on hand. Honestly the parents are the ones who should do this - they may need workers to come into their home-who'd likely be required to wear foot coverings. Also a heads up is always good for 'fashion'...

as in if you know it's a Shoes Off home you don't wear your 27 eyelet knee-high Converse, or boots with 10 buckles; easy on&off. You make sure your socks are 'nice'. Also for women- you know your pant length needs to work without shoes vs platforms.

I believe he is wearing a specific orthopedic shoe. Certainly when I had plantar fascitis, I wore one single pair of Fitflop shoes to death, and had a pair of the sandals to wear inside because I couldn't walk around indoors in my own house without supportive soles

yes he had very specific shoe needs. I'm talking from a host POV - if you want no shoes(which is great) there's more than one reason to let folks know & even folks with happy feet would like the heads up.
