Made refried beans from scratch for the first time, using Rio Zape dried beans fully boiled, then lard, onion, bean broth, a bay leaf, and that’s about it. Finished in time to make a breakfast tortilla with Oaxaca cheese. This one I did all by myself. #foodsky #BlueskySupperClub

Homemade refried beans during the skillet mashing process, about 15 minutes to go. Potato masher at center. Tortilla with beans, cheese and other toppings on plate.

Making your own refried beans is a GAME changer. I just recently got into the Rancho Gordo Bean Club specifically so I could make a wider variety. If I can get them to look like yours, I'm doing it right.

In fact I was using the recipe from Rancho Gordo's Bean Book. They promote the Rio Zape for its coffee and chocolate undertones, and refritos did indeed showcase those because the bean taste is so exposed. I also endorse the RZ in Bean Book's creamy bean dip with herbs. #BlueskySupperClub #foodsky

Fantastic news. This is the first time I've discovered someone who knows about them in the wild so hearing a great review makes me feel better. I can't wait to hit their recipe book hard, my delivery date is Wednesday.
