Just a quarter of an onion, routine for a stew. Also a clove or two of garlic roasted with the eggplant.

It’s one of the trickiest. The old advice to slice, salt, and let sit for 20 minutes as a preliminary can help, although modern varieties are less bitter. Eggplant whips and dips can be one entry point. For curry, our favorite is to roast eggplant cubes separately and add to a lentil dal.

Three hours, and even so some pieces are not so tender. With goat we find there are no guarantees of tenderness, since it’s so lean. We do love smoky eggplant charred on the gas flame. In this case the cubes were seasoned, salted, and roasted in the oven with extra fat at low heat.

This child deportees case started ugly, and it's getting uglier fast. DOJ blows off deadline for status report confirming that they took all the Guatemalan children off the planes in Texas. Docket: www.courtlistener.com/docket/71240...

MINUTE ORDER: The Court ordered the Defendants to file a status report by August 31, 2025, at 4:00 PM. They have not done so. The Court ORDERS the Defendants to show cause why a status report was not filed by that deadline. The Defendants remain under their obligation to file a status report addressing the current status of the deplaning of putative class members. If all class members have not been deplaned and moved back to the custody of ORR, the Defendants should advise when they expect that to occur. The Court further ORDERS the Plaintiffs to file a status report by August 31, 2025, at 6:30 PM, that addresses their understanding of whether the putative class members have been deplaned and moved to ORR. “The Happiest Place On Earth” is a trademarked phrase of the Disney company. Otherwise I might be tempted to use it to describe Cato today after the appeals court struck down the tariffs. @cato.org

Hurrah for the Constitution of the United States and hurrah for the Article III federal courts: by a 7-3 margin, Federal Circuit in V.O.S. Selections v. Trump upholds Court of International Trade decision striking down most of Trump's tariffs as not authorized by IEEPA. Per curiam (unsigned). /1
