I think you can ignore them during the election, but afterwards, you can't. There's a vein of trump supporters, I guess it's mainly the evangelicals, that expect punishment for crimes. And they can rightly say 'If Jan 6th was so bad, why didn't a Democrat White House and Congress punish him?'
If Trump broke all these norms to usurp power, why didn't the Democrats break one norm, prosecuting a political rival, who supposedly did all this illegal stuff including trying to steal an election?
