Arri is worth it only if you're doing actual professional work and even then not with something ancient. An Arri SR series camera is a 100% pure purpose built device for shooting thousands of feet a day and not exploding and my god they're so good

Oh the maurers I have are more than adequate. I don’t really need to do any handheld stuff. If I do I may opt for something that uses mitchell mags. Like a scoopic ms, or a cp-16. The mitchell 16 is what I really want though. Because the accessories are abundant. The useful ones like the AC

Motors and animation motors, blimps, etc. Focus pulling and so on. But that target is a ways off. In the meanwhile, I’m trying to get a useable set of stuff for the maurer so I can do film tests and shoot a bunch of b-roll.

Yeah I've been considering a scoopic for a little while, they're really adorable

Yeah the value prop with the scoopics is they’re maybe best as action cameras in rapidly changing light conditions. But kinda ill suited to other filming tasks. They’d probably be pretty slick on a steadicam. It’s too bad the 200’ sound and 400’ silent models are hard to come by.

The biggest issue I see with them is the same issue I have with the early arri cameras and tbh most older cameras. The finder being directly on the back. The SR spoiled me, I can stand over the camera, far more comfortable than behind it.

Also I think if I were gonna do film stop motion these days I'd take a page from ILM and use something like a Nikon F3. I can confirm the registration is scarily good based on Tim's Fwhatever he had here. The lenses are cheap and easy. I can easily fit or make a bulk back. Cheap fine grain films too

Maybe. I already have the 16mm animation motor though. And the maurer has excellent registration too.
