I know you're all wondering, "How does @jkeller5.bsky.social feel about the rivalries unis?" I like them, with the potential of loving when we see them on the field. For YEARS I have been yelling to nobody that some orange on the collar would help our actual uniforms look less boring. Boom! Done!
For YEARS I have been screaming that shoulder stripes would significantly improve our look. And wouldja lookie here?
The deep deep deep blue/charcoal black always looks good. And I love the helmets. I may not love the color of the Dolphin, but not sure an aqua dolphin with a black background would be better. These are a MAJOR improvement over our actual helmets which are so boring (its bc of the white facemask)
That was the good. Here's the bad. The numbers. First, they look rubbery. But the #1 problem I have is the same one I have with our real unis. The Font. Unlike The Fonz, The Font is not cool. It's soft. It's the real reason our throwbacks look so much better. They don't pop. A major disappointment
As for the pants/socks, I like the pants. But just like with our regular unis, no stripes on socks. Without some color on the socks, the deep blue on deep blue from neck to toe makes the uni look like a onesie you get at Baby Gap. I concede that the lack of stripes is not so bad on the Rivalry uni.
So there you have it. Everything you need to know. I can't give it an A because of the numbers. But I can give it a strong B, maybe B+. Considering our current unis are a D, which sometimes in the right light can look like a C, it's a big improvement.
