Troi should have a lot more support! And I agree that mental health is not taken as seriously.
I don't think it was intentional. But you are definitely right in calling out the imbalance. Let's also not forget that Lt. Cmdr. Troi also was Protocol officer - she was the dping research on new cultures & customs & training Picard on how not to offend new contacts. Her job was VAST.
Maybe it wad the subconscious biases of the writers then? I'm glad they thought to include a counselor, but it's like 1 character/person can be spread so thin because it's "just mental health. Just talk and that'll fix everything".
Oh, it was most-assuredly the bias of the writers (and they had SOOOO many). Their writing staff was mostly cis-hetero white men, and it SHOWED.
So that's it then. Their subconscious biases came through in the writing and on screen despite trying to portray a progressive 24th century society.
