I think that’s part of it. The dems (seems like Schumer) really blew the messaging on this. Supporters just want to be treated like adults and reasoned with. When people should be mad at republicans now they’re mad at the democratic senators.

1) People are mad at Republicans. It matters when GOP townhalls are shut down. However, when folks get let down by their own team, that feels like betrayal. This isn't a "messaging" failure. This is political cowardice and
2) careerism at the worst possible moment. We don't need legislators right now. We need politicians who understand how to seize the moment. It was a massive, visible failure.
I agree. But they also failed at the messaging.
1) AFAICT, that was deliberate. Since they hadn't gamed anything out, possibly because they always knew what they were going to do, they didn't have much to say. The rationale Schumer offered was jerry-built, didn't address either the
2) strategic issues, or alternatives. IOW, Schumer couldn't reveal his actual reasons because they would have worsened the conflagration.
So what do you think his reasons were? If he can’t explain his reasons and get the support of his supporters then that seems like a real problem for a leader.
1) Since he won't say, we can only speculate, but one answer may lie in Gillibrand's ferocious pleading for Schumer to support the CR. Some part of this is about NY politics, not national. Another answer may be that Schumer's power base is the
2) orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn, which has supported him strongly. Because the Trump Administration's so close with Netanyahu, it may be (I'm guessing here) that community badly wanted the CR to go through. Ultimately, though, Schumer went against the entire Dem
3) House Caucus, which is, in itself, shocking. One would expect, at a minimum, there would have been communication, but Schumer hung them out to dry. That suggests powerful, personal reasons.
