I think that’s part of it. The dems (seems like Schumer) really blew the messaging on this. Supporters just want to be treated like adults and reasoned with. When people should be mad at republicans now they’re mad at the democratic senators.
You are probably right but even if the government shut down and the dems got nothing (with their only ask being to continue clean funding at current levels) that would demonstrate to people that the republicans don’t care and the dems do.
Part of the fight is messaging. They might not negotiate but they also might be damaged. The public is getting mad. They will never negotiate if they aren’t pushed to.
