But at the margin, isn't this *still* power that could be put on the grid? Tell me more about these fringe supply areas. Because if I ran a power generation company and could produce lots of cheap power, I'd want to put it on the grid and sell it at market rates.

There isn’t constant demand. Mining is very flexible about how it pulls load, it’s not like anything else… Producers are able to put generation in poor or low population areas and offset cost with mining. In 5-10 years my bet is all producers will also be mining.
