What a coincidence. Our ginger went to the vet yesterday also. Here's a pic of a 16.5 pound orange guy in a normal sized cat tower.
This isn't my real picture. I'm a tortoiseshell.

But at the margin, isn't this *still* power that could be put on the grid? Tell me more about these fringe supply areas. Because if I ran a power generation company and could produce lots of cheap power, I'd want to put it on the grid and sell it at market rates.

I'll say one thing, this moment has made it abundantly clear that what's needed are leaders who aren't afraid to articulate a fighting spirit. Local and State leaders who would be hardly known outside their areas are getting national attention as long as they stand up and fight.

I learned from the video that Mr. Big Balls doesn't know the difference between "adverse" and "averse". Minor pedantic point, I know. But it just makes me despise him even more.

I'm honestly surprised that people are surprised by this. In the related domain of data science, there's an often quoted study from Gartner years ago that found 85% of data science projects fail.

It's just branding meant to obscure their radical shift from voters who might have had some legitimate affinity for the GOP 25 years ago. They're counting on said voters not paying attention to anything but self-applied labels. This works for the same reason as shrinkflation in the grocery store.

The phrase "paleoconservative" was coined to describe the strain of right wing thought that's bent on deconstruction rather than preservation of institutions. Pat Buchanan was the first politician I remember being described this way, during his quixotic 90s presidential campaigns.

This key. People take Federal employment because they believe in the mission, and they swap higher pay in the public sector for stability. Now that the mission has been kneecapped, and stability is gone, recruiting is going to be difficult even if we shake off this administration.

Given that this is the easiest and correct answer, you'd think this would be straightforward. But Trump's stupid, corrupt and transactional. So his first instinct is to keep everything open to negotiation, even things that should never be negotiable.

Interesting read, especially since I'm in Michigan. Haley Stevens is my US Representative, and Mallory McMorrow is my Michigan Senator. I'm 100% behind McMorrow. I'm still disappointed that Haley Stevens won the primary against Andy Levin in 2022.

This concept should be familiar to anyone in a business setting, so I'm not surprised it's a foreign concept to Republicans. Businesses make rolling forecasts through the year. Under Trump's management, a business would discard the 3/12, 6/12, etc. forecasts and fumble along until year end.

My take is GenX stopped paying attention in the '90s because crime rates were too depressing. Now people in that age cohort extrapolate that crime rate trend to the present.
Geoff Bee (@firingorder1432.bsky.social) reply parent
Here's my GenX take: People in the GenX cohort largely made decisions about where to live between the mid-90s and mid-00s. To the extent that crime was a factor in the decision about where to live, the crime stats at that time would have been skewed based on '80s and '90s trends.
