I had 3 instances of crested caracara-in-the-yard today! The adult + two juvenile sightings. I think the 2 juvie sightings are the same bird. It showed up around lunch to forage in the grass then returned about an hour ago to the ash tree. If you’re new here, hi we got neighborhood caracaras. 🌿🪶
Not as exotic but we have two pairs of barn swallows nesting in the outside canopy to our house. I have spent hours watching them feeding their chicks and they have now fledged. The picture is the first time I saw them outside the nest. They just sat there, occasionally stretching their wings
I had to snap them through my bathroom window as I didn’t want to disturb them. They are on top of the canopy with the nests beneath
So sweet! I love barn swallows. And yes lol these caracara photos were taken through my home office window because opening the front door would startle them off.

They’ve been super active in our culdesac this past week! It’s a family of five (two parents and three juvies) and they’ve all been hanging out in the yard/street multiple times, including this morning.
Very cool. I had a couple broad-winged hawks this morning, which were fun.
Also as usual with yard sightings, I had to nab these through my office window so they have some fuzzy action going on lol Opening the front door makes them take off. They are extremely skittish lol
I used to see them when I lived near Lake Okeechobee. A VERY cool looking bird. Nice pics!

I was so excited when I discovered them. Their usual nesting site is just down the road and apparently they’ve had chicks here for the past handful of years now!
🤩 I can’t imagine looking out my window and seeing a bird this exotic in my yard! (But I live in SoCal so there’s that.) I hope to see one IRL someday….
