Got it 👍 I’ll factor that into my yard reboot. I’ve got more plants and herbs doing well than ever before. Most new from last fall. So will add more now and see if they take too.

I never had a green thumb. I didn’t have a yard to do stuff in since I flew the nest. Any house plant that entered my home would meet certain death. Now I know more. And so it has been a good learning experience. All my failures are part of it. Failure is a part of learning.

It is. These leylands were planted 20 years ago, five feet a part. Now look at them. You’d never plant them here now. They’re protected from the wind by the house so I think I got lucky. Only thing I did right was fertilizer spikes. Did those religiously.

I got this old paper birch. I call her Hazel. She needs some trimming up. The trunks are solid but some branches need to come down.

Oh good. Not your problem. Until it’s in your yard. Free firewood.

I need some kit to do it. A pole saw with a chain. I have a ladder and helmet. May need a belt. And a spotter. I need someone to hang out incase of a mishap.

I’ve got a DeWalt pole saw that would do it. One of my favorite tools. One attachment is the saw and the other is a bush edger that bends.

They probably aid in protecting your house in the wind as well. But yeah. Maybe to close to a foundation.

Oh! Another thing I learned (by accident) is I planted Cucumber in one bed and cockcomb several feet away from the cucumber. The cucumber beetles are all about the cockscomb. Haven’t touched my cucumber or squash. Companion planting is a good thing. Will be doing that again next year.
