We won't have facts until assassin is caught, but there's a lot of rumors online that it could have been a "professional". To me that says "someone getting paid," but at the least it means someone who is highly trained. A neck shot is almost always lethal, but nobody aims for the neck. Not a "pro".

That is the point. They were aiming for the head, but either didn’t calculate or miscalculated the drop of the bullet over distance due to gravity. That’s not a mistake a professional shooter would make.

Someone with training never aims for the neck. If this person did, they're not trained and had a ton of luck. We just need to wait and see what the investigation uncovers.

It seems that every hour that passes is going to make catching him exponentially more difficult. If it was an expert, and he has an escape the country plan then he may already be gone. Venezuela is not going to extradite him. I’m guessing that with that kind of marksmanship he was very well trained.

It's extremely difficult to move through a space without leaving trace evidence. He left something behind. Could be hair from his arm, a palm print, skin cells/DNA. As long as they didn't fire the crime lab at Quantico (who knows?), I'm sure this shooter is living on borrowed freedom right now.

You’re presuming they can narrow down the shooter’s location sufficiently. And that their (or relatives’) DNA is on file.

If your third cousin who you have never met and probably don't even know exists took a genealogy test, the police can narrow you down. It's nearly impossible to get away with something like this in the times we live.

I think I'd start first with the student body and staff; someone knew where he would be setup and had time to scout the sightline to the target. Any students who made sudden relocations would be suspect, etc.

Just based on many yrs of asking veteran friends/sources shooting questions: Good aim, obvs. And took nerve. But conditions were *IDEAL* for non-pro success. Clear day, stationary-ish target w/ space in front. Also, kinda surprising amt of bullet drop for a military rifleman to miscalculate. IDK.

What about time and position? The dead NAZI had lots of securities. The shooter probably didn't have a lot of time to aim. The target was under a tent, his head was probably not even visible from an elevated position.

sep 11, 2025, 8:37 am • 1 0 • view
avatar
altNOAA 🇺🇸 @altnoaa.bsky.social

The tent looks about 10x10, and he was sitting in the middle of it. From 600 feet away, the shooter likely had a clear view underneath. This is essentially the shooter’s POV.

Excellent point. Another longtime streamer mentioned CK always had THE BEST security. OTOH, that doesn't mean perimeter or grid like Feds would create. Re: Time, that far away, my impression (maybe wrong) was that shooter didn't need to hurry. CK had just started. Jitters? Or a pro's caution? 🤷‍♀️

One thing I do know for sure is that this will 100% drive some fairly normie Dems insane for life (like 60s shootings) if the shooter simply escapes. (Or if the FBI lets this go under a shroud of mystery & perception of post-purge derp b/c it's much more expedient to have a blank space to accuse.)

At 200 yards, depending on how the rifle was zeroed and the grain of the round, you could see up to about 5 inches of drop. They were likely aiming for the head and hit low. If a scope was used, it wasn’t properly zeroed. That doesn’t point to a professional shooter.

Depending on wind conditions and distance, you have to adjust for all of that. The greater the distance or the more wind it makes it more difficult. He was probably aiming for the chest, the shooters aim was just a little high.

altNOAA 🇺🇸 @altnoaa.bsky.social

There was no wind. I can’t find the video now, but there is video showing protestors that were located basically between the shooter and Kirk’s position. More importantly, there’s a Davis VantagePro2 weather station mounted where they were at… and the wind cups on the anemometer aren’t moving.

altNOAA 🇺🇸 @altnoaa.bsky.social

I can't find video now, but I did find a still photo of the scene. I don't know what shutter speed the photographer is using, but clearly the wind cups on the anemometer are in perfect focus, no motion blur. Photo probably taken within 10 mins of the shot being fired. Thus, no wind at location.

The nearest metar station says there was around 6mph of wind. But this station is more local and doesn't appear to be installed at 10m height (as a metar station is)... this station appears to be within the sightline of the shooter and Kirk; so it would be far more accurate per this situation.

It's interesting to see how ppl interpret it b/c IMO, the point of impact is a decent non-pro indicator. As you said, certainly trained (formally or informally) & has some amount of practice-acquired skill. But the bullet dropped WAY more than they calculated and/or expected.

600,000 people had rifle licenses in WI in 2024. Half just drink and half miss, so 150k people in one state had the means to make that shot. The cool pro who assembles a scoped rifle from a fiddle case is TV fiction. Contract killers are usually bumblers or wannabees with a handgun who get caught.
