Looking fab! Can’t wait to see more!! ❤️❤️❤️ These really are one of the neatest kinds of camera. I was thinking of building one but am now working on a slightly different instant box camera option! 🤞🤞😬

I was thrilled to get a fairly nice image on my first try! I really feels like magic. Can’t wait to get some more practice with and try some different papers / filters.
And now I’m excited to see what instant camera you create.
I had been planning to build, but now I’m hoping I can refurbish something that is older, depending on its condition! 😅😅😅😬😬😬😬😬🤷♂️
I’ll post photos soon, hopefully! 🤞🤞😬
But it opens up so many fun potential things you can do!!
Like, I have some ra4 chems and paper laying around and was hoping to get back to ra4 reversal. And instant box cams lend themselves perfectly to this. And zebra just released their faux orotypes which can just be swapped into the second step!
Im certainly going to have to try some zebra plates in the future.
Yeah, that’s a really awesome. Well done!!!!
It’s hard to find many posts on bsky about these, partially because there aren’t many bsky folks using them, but also because they go by so many names!: kamra-e-faoree, afghan box cam, street box camera, camera minutera, Cuban polaroid, mandel-ette, lambe-lambe! 😅😅😅
Ive been surprised at how hard it is to find good information about these online and I expect the various names are a large part of that.
💯yeah, really surprising. Definitely a few reasons. And the names is, for sure, one. Because you get small clusters of people talking about them, very insulated, under the different names in different photo communities, it looks like.
Lukas Birks work in documenting the final generation of Afghan Box Cam photographers is phenomenal; and drove so much of the interest that anyone has in these (including mine!); but then has also maybe made it a little harder to find info about earlier instant box cameras and histories online!
Yeah, all roads online seem to lead to the afghan box camera project. Which is a great resource, but Ive been surprised at how little I’ve been able to find outside of it, and a few YouTube creators.
Exactly! A great resource for sure!! But also sorta swamps the signal for other resources! Found ONE active fb group to join though it’s primarily in French! Anyway, I tagged you in a feed I created here in bsky that would try to solve the name problem by combining multiple terms! 🤷♂️🤷♂️
I love it. Thanks.
It’s also harder to find many threads on earlier cameras because they didn’t really have a distinctive enough name. Searching forums and threads, etc, for instant box cams or instant street cameras, etc. is much more likely to find info on Polaroids and street photography than instant box cams!!! 😅😅
