There is something really wrong about bitcoins. You can't buy anything with it. The only things I can think of are criminal activities, like drugs, human trafficking or worst.

Its because its a scam. The entire thing is a pyramid scheme thats been given faux legitimacy by tech bros just trying to pump their bags by telling you its the future. I worked in crypto quite deep until I finally saw how full of shit the entire concept was. Run away.

What value did you provide when you worked in crypto?

West Coast Cheese 🏴‍☠️ @cheeseofthewest.bsky.social

None, because crypto is a scam, and I quit the space as soon as I fully realized that. I didn't want to believe it, because I had a lot of faith in the technology at the time. Once you get behind the scenes enough, you realize all these "blockchain experts" and "CEOs" are fuckin con artists.

Curious, what project did you work in / on? Which chain / token? “Crypto” is literally thousands of entities.

Yes it is, Im not interested in discussing the specifics of what I was involved in. The entire situation ended up making me very uncomfortable. The laters of grift in every space I looked was appalling. I knew people from all over the space, from Osmosis to Hex, BTC to Tron and everything in between

You learned the same way I did that the entire landscape aside from Bitcoin is scams all the way down. There’s the shitcoin casino and there’s Bitcoin, no in between.

No, and yes, I was around and consulted for, many projects. Some of those are dead now. Some of them are not. The underlying reality though, is that 98% of the industry is a complete fraud. The tech has/had potential, but its being abused currently by con artists, and worse.

Yeah, it's not a bad tech, except for Bitcoin (it pollutes), in itself. It seems to be misused. Recently, MasterCard attacked adult content creators, it's one aspect where this tech could be useful, to avoid monopoly censorship.

I mean in theory it could in some situations, but so could just a functional law that prevents credit card companies from refusing service based on some individual morality.

Yeah but this rely too much on citizens being decent human beings. But yeah, I'm a big fan of the usual "in theory, it can, but in practice ...", that just stupidity for me. Reality is what it is, pretending that something could be different to defend something is kinda dumb.

but the whole point of crypto is that anyone can just open up some open source code and make an improved permissionless state machine without waiting for some great policy change to come along to make a private cos state machine better

So if I understand correctly, you were asked for consultation, and self-admittedly provided no value, sometimes for projects with effectively no users and sometimes with more. Based on your characterization of the BTC market, I believe you.

Ya so you create a permanent record of every single cent of crypto youve ever used that never goes away. That sounds far better for government oversight and control than any traditional value systems so far. It's the opposite of what btc people claim it is.

But it's also not a very good tool to hide things. Transactions are public. Once someone is identified, you can trace back what they have bought or sold. It's very strange. I understand the scammers though, it's a nice tool to scam people.
