I was in a YouTube Creators Community meeting yesterday and one of the metrics that we were told is particularly important is the % of people who swipe away in the first 5 seconds. You want that to be below 5%, apparently. My rate on YouTube Shorts? 33%. Yikes. /1

So, I was wrong. I did end up arguing with a bozo on one of your posts.

I only watch on YouTube and sometimes I watch 2 or 3 times to make sure I have a grasp on your point. I'll start commenting, but I'm not fighting with the bozos who don't like them.

I never watch Shorts. If I could eliminate them from even showing up, I would.

But this isn't because I'm posting bad videos. They wouldn't do as well as they do on every other platform if they were bad! /2

My theory? They don't show my videos to people who like them. The demographic data certainly shows that they don't push my Shorts to the same audience that I have elsewhere. Worse, I think they actually show them to a lot of people who *hate* my videos - because those are the people who comment. /3

Good. It means they are actually trying to break echo chambers. Unlike the other platforms, who purely focus on engagement.

Anyway, I'm not certain I'll ever find traction on YouTube if the algorithm sees me as an account to recommend as a hate-follow. (I will also continue to avoid those comment fields.) /end

On the other hand, maybe you'll make some of them (the ones that last more than 5s) realize the manosphere crap they're being fed by the algorithm is, well, crap.

Because people don't want you to breathe, or pause or think. It's not a reflection of you, the deep thinkers will stay.
