Couldn't we set up a nonprofit to be a source of funding for independent media? Readers pay this nonprofit and get access to multiple sources – subscriptions, x number of articles, whatever. The nonprofit aggregates all this and distributes payments accordingly.
Has this been tried? I would happily pay $10+/month for something like this. As opposed to $0 now because the number of sources I want to support is high (20+) and I have indecision paralysis or am just overwhelmed.
Or maybe it's just me, and everybody else has a couple subscriptions to prominent sources. But then what about brilliant journalists like Marisa Kabas, who seemed to come out of nowhere to become an incredible, irreplaceable resource? How does the next Marisa get our $$ support to take the leap?

We have some truly amazing voices! Just at the top of my head Meidas Touch (for legal and political analysis), Sarah Longwell (for focus group insights), The Bulwark (for Conservative turned Anti-Trumper) etc. The voices on the pro democracy side of the ledger are intelligent and very much there.

We definitely do not need Stephen Miller. Democrats need to stop flipping out about progressives. It’s ok to embrace the people elected and supported by actual left leaning Democrats. It’s ok to be seen working with a party member rather than chasing the center right that isn’t working with you

Absolutely. To replace 1 big name in your media diet means replacing it with 3 or 4 independent reporters who may all work at different outlets. But, you can move at your own pace, and I truly believe you'll notice the reporting is legitimately better.
I also have some resources compiled, so if you have a specific news area to ask for suggestions, I may have some.
I subscribe to a number of independents but was one who had subscriptions to local papers, NY Times, WaPo, the WSJ *and* cable, a true news glutton!
Carefully removing sources can be as important as carefully adding them. Maybe just note for yourself what each paper would have to do to lose your readership. Then periodically check back and see if they've done it. When I've done this, I usually don't have to wait long. Happy reading!
