it isn't just a social media phenomenon. i've lived in red and blue states. people in blue states, even IRL, forget that there are people in red states who absolutely did not vote for this. rural arizona dems are braver than most actual leftists i knew living in california.
I live in Kansas. Blue clumps in our cities and red elsewhere as far as the eye can see.
obviously i care about everyone else's safety, too, but if you've never lived in a red state, you have no idea what it's like out there. i got involved with the queer community in my small area of rural AZ... then would go back to california where nobody believed me that it existed
We get shit on from all sides. I literally got told it was my fault because I didn't just move. I explained that queer people should be safe to live anywhere and got called an idiot for "wanting" to live here. That coastal elitist shit is REAL.
Seriously, I live in San Francisco, consider myself pretty left, but I've had to fight that blue state elitist mentality in myself. I've dropped people who think that way from my life, it's so toxic and completely unhelpful.
Let’s follow that thought all the way to the end. So all liberals and queers move to the cities in blue states, exploding those populations, reducing available housing even further, making the unemployment and homelessness rates skyrocket… then what? I swear people don’t think past the first step. 🙄
