- somewhere in between. maybe parts are partially distinct, enough to feel--and fear--but not enough to think. or maybe the combiner's personality is clearly a summation of the original parts, but internally it can't tell the difference. would it argue that they live on through it?
- the parts are completely dead; the process of combination eliminated their individual personalities. the combiner is alone in their mind, with a body made up of people whose lives it took; who didn't know they'd face the ultimate to bring it into existence.
three possibilities: - all the parts are fully present within the combiner's mind and have to reckon with the fact that they'll never get out. maybe the combiner is their own person separate from them. how would they feel sharing a mind with people whose lives it took, on purpose or not?
been playing with the idea of a combiner who can't decombine and realized that while it's ridiculously edgy, it would fit into my weird half-baked fan-continuity

another part of it to me is like, if you know what you're doing, you can either figure out how a machine works or find datasheets and manuals for it. it ruins the sense of "this is a machine from time immemorial" if you have all the answers. do you know how much of human history isn't recorded?
with that said i do like the idea of cybertronians/fictional societies having contesting theories about the origins of the ancient space robots. that's always fun. it's specifically when the reader is aware of this stuff that it gets less fun
idk man i think giant ancient robots are cooler when we don't have all the answers about them. it's like how the horror movie monster is never as scary as the idea of it. you have to let people sit with that unknown and fill in the answers themselves.
i think there's a similar attitude to mass effect fans not liking me3. like... there are a lot of valid gripes with me3. personally one of mine is that i think the reapers were cooler when we didnt know that much about them

i do not want guests to be able to whip out their phones on the ride and see that i did that. i do not want every guest that lands to demand an explanation as to why i stopped them on the ride.
-allowed to enter without a lockout. so naturally when you had time to think about it, you stopped the ride when it wouldn't stop a cabin there if a guest runs into the ride, you do not have time to think about it you have now triggered a minimum 10-minute downtime. on purpose
there are so many weird edge cases that can cause complete ride shutdowns. if i stopped my von roll in the wrong position, cabins on the way into the station wouldn't be moving fast enough to make it into the station and would valley partway into the station, in a location where operators weren't-
oh one more thing - the park doesnt even really record information about what caused a downtime. at least, not in any way that would help the general public parse what's going on. at most parks, you either get "operational/weather/mechanical" or a HUGE list of downtime codes with WAY too much detail
back when i worked at a regional park, i would bend the rules and tell people what caused a downtime if i thought it would help the situation. and most of the time it genuinely helped. the frontline employees who are in the park can tell who can handle the information and who can't.
i agree that the theme park industry needs more transparency but publishing reasons for every single downtime is throwing people completely into the deep end. this is why i think operators need the freedom to explain this to guests WHEN IT MAKES SENSE TO.
but like the amount of people who fully crash out when you tell them a ride stopped itself because a safety system triggered is ridiculous. "you guys need to fix your rides" when the ride WORKED. and i've seen you guys go online and berate mechanics for it. you don't know what you're talking about.
and i mean it when i say this includes mechanics. if you don't know how rides work, you don't get to comment on how well a park maintains their rides based on how many times a ride breaks down when you visit. by all means call them on things you understand (welders looking at welds for example).
i should NOT be required to handle berating from panicked guests who do not understand that other peoples' safety comes before their convenience. "people aren't that selfish!" which one of us is a ride operator? yes they are.
