I believe the Democratic establishment would rather crush Mamdani than really embrace him and why he, and others, like AOC are winning. Hope I'm wrong. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/25/o...

The DNC kicked @davidhogg.bsky.social out because he and Leaders We Deserve are challenging the Democratic establishment. We need more candidates like Mamdani!
It’s a goddamn shame democrats have to fight the current regime to preserve not only our democracy but we also have to fight our own party who are trying to convince us we should accept their stale and outdated bullshit.
It's the same reason the DNC managed to get rid of Hogg.
I hope that you’re wrong on this one too. 🤞
Its estimated that Mamdani got about $2 million dollars in free media advertising yesterday alone, from Fox
Dem leadership are not in touch with their constituents. That is a choice because they do not want the changes that would be necessary in order for them to actually represent “we the people”. The status quo benefits them, and they will be replaced by our vote for a person who represents the people.
I think you’re right. We have to surround these people with a human chain of protection.
I think you're right.
The democratic establishment needs to start mentoring the new generation and work out the arrangements for their move to Boca. Zohran Mamdani and AOC and Jasmine Crockett and Malcolm Kenyatta and Maxwell Frost and Pete B are the future. "Please get out of the new one if you can't lend your hand."
They'd crush the whole country to hold onto their power. Democrats haven't been on the people's side for decades.
Who passed the Affordable Care Act?
Basically Republicans. 149 R amendments. The end result protected insurance companies. It was such bad law the major provisions were all stricken down and costs increased. We were promised single payer. I've been waiting since the Clinton administration.
Hillary Clinton wanted Universal Healthcare. What exactly are Democrats supposed to do to Republican opposition who work against things like Universal Healthcare?
Exactly my point. I am not in a pep club. They utterly failed as an entire party to arrest everyone involved in overthrow of the government. So full of octegenarian centrists they aren't representing me.
I agree Democrats can not work with Republicans right now and should be all hands on deck against an authoritarian regime. I ultimately agree with you.
Oh, I totally agree. I am worried they will somehow sabotage his continued run, and help Coumo get elected. I’m hating on the Dems and the GOP these days.
Feelings are still raw. I get that. This was a gigantic proxy fight inside the Democratic Party. I told myself that if Cuomo won the primary, I wouldn’t vote for him in the general. So I can respect Cuomo supporters needing a good long while to get on board.
The establishment isn’t asking the questions cause they know they aren’t gonna like the answers
If those who are part of the Democratic establishment, were smart, they would see Mamdani as being like a canary in the coal mine.
They're still trying.
Of course you're not wrong. Their winning represents a shift in power away from old guard, old school Dems. And we all know how people & institutions react when their power (that they've worked so hard to cultivate and keep) is threatened.
Get billionaires out of politics. Everyone knows their only interest in government is themselves. It is blatantly obvious.
Democrats should listen to the constituents and voters not some foreign country who wants to dictate who should run for public offices in America.
Democrats should not crush socialist, it's no difference than the Republicans befriending the tea party.
They will embrace him if they know what’s good for them.
DINOs: People who pretend to espouse democratic values, but are actually republicans who suck barely less.
If there was ever a time for the Party to change it's now.
I don’t think you are wrong, which is disheartening. The establishment needs to heed the people.
DNC is past its eyes in a quicksand pit.
Unfortunately, you’re not wrong.
Yes, hope you are wrong on this one
The “Democratic Establishment” is WHY we lost the 2024 election and why we keep losing in purple Senate and House races across the Country, young people are disillusioned with the Party and sadly don’t realize voting or not voting has consequences @democrats.org
Everything they hate about him (his faith his age his optimism) are the very things that make this guy what he is and who he is. They are the past he is the future. And he is already in Don Olds head🔮💯👍
I love this pic. Im not crying. Are you crying?
This is so fucked. I live happily in a social democracy; hear that description: social democracy. It is not old world socialism of which so many are afraid. It means we care for and support each other when in need: health, education, aged, etc. it’s not hard. It’s caring. Australia.
If by old "old world socialism" you mean the flavours of it current in western Europe, it's… not awful. It's also far, far cheaper than (for example) paying for private-sector healthcare, or building your own hospital. Same story for rail travel, city planning, law enforcement. And more.
No, I mean ‘old school socialism’ that repressed Eastern Europe and has nothing to do with democratic values that lift up our citizens into better futures.
WE voters must let the Democratic establishment know WE want leaders like Mamdani, AOC, Jasmine Crockett, and David Hogg. The establishment keeps losing.
i'd just like people to be specific when they say democratic establishment, like there's some unknown mysterious force controlling this disaster of a Party
Unfortunately, I think you are right.
Democratic establishment did the very same too Carter in 1980.
He has to answer for telling voters not to vote for Kamala Harris when a fascist candidate was knocking on the door
Oh? Do you have a source/link for that claim? I have not seen this.
Like any other organization, Dems aren't above having their "good ol boys club". They always talk a good game about their wokeness, but the club is alive and well. We are electing more much younger people, and I think that will continue. The establishment will finally catch on, they have no choice
Time for the Dem OG to bow out. They've proven again and again that they have neither the skill set nor the stamina to fight fascism.
It's very long past due to finally break up the old tired 2 party system, that is clearly failing here in America. We are sick of the same old shit and ready for this welcome change that actually might benefit the PEOPLE, and not just the bureaucrats 🤬 Bring it on!
Honestly, I think the Democrat establishment would rather see a Republican, even one from MAGA, become Mayor of New York, than to see a genuine progressive win. Nothing threatens their grip on power more than genuine grassroots progressive candidates and action.
That's ridiculous and saying this to lifelong hard working Democrats does not represent the unity you claim THEY are resisting.
What? The DNC resists actual progressivism to make nice with the far right wingnuts who control our country. There can’t be unity between the actual progressives (like AOC) and a slightly less right-wing Conservative Party (Schumer, Clinton, etc.). Their interests literally conflict.
They are not slightly less right wing.
Respectfully, I would argue that it's not so much a matter of how much or how little they are right wing, but moreso the fact that they (the Dem establishment) are so beholden to their donors from Wall Street, AIPAC, the health insurance and defense industries. In short, they're corrupt AF.
Money in politics is a problem but haven't Democrats pushed for Campaign Finance Reform and expanding Healthcare which would hurt their supposed being beholden to donors?
Elise, I’ll just chime in to say that I think you’re wrong, from what I see from California. Maybe your state has cracked this problem, but Citizens United and low-level corruption (stock market trading while in office) has created a GQP-lite Democratic Party for far too many districts and states.
Well I am not going to argue that money in politics isn't affecting policy or politicians. I am just seeing the long history of the Democratic Party since FDR. Citizens United was a disaster and many Democrats do need a wake up call.
I think you're right, but they still win. A slight ray of hope.
AOC is the establishment. You are very wrong.
Unfortunately you are spot on
You are right Waj. I’m done with them
Me too.
Wajahat, the problem is that the Democrat elites don’t want their voters to be “engaged” - they see anything that smacks of enthusiasm-driving to be gauche, faddish, and inauthentic. They would rather message in a way that conveys smug sophistication.
you are not wrong. democrats will continue to fuck up with their letter writing by 80 year olds. there is no real hope they will change. let them burn to the ground.

Rather than keep condemning old guard Dems why not help them along to see the light? Don’t be part of destructive condemnation! @msnbc.com @arimelber.bsky.social @nicollewallace.bsky.social @maddow.msnbc.com @chrislhayes.bsky.social @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com @stephruhle.bsky.social
We are screaming from the roof tops that we Americans want substantial change in this country. It is time to be bold and go big.
🎯🎯🎯💯
The party establishment needs to be swept out, and Mamdani, AOC, and Crocket are the ones to do it.
They would rather persist is delusion than embrace reality They are doing the opposite of what Carl Sagan recommended - arguable one of the greatest minds ever www.goodreads.com/quotes/3882-...
The "Old Guard" hates evolution. They are dinosaurs who's time, just like that of the Grand Old Nazi's, is up. They'd rather full-on fascism, than to support a candidate who will fight for the people.
People who don't vote or vote for someone they KNOW is not gonna win gave us fascism. They should own it.
“(Old) Democrats don’t agree with EVERYTHING I want, so I’ll whine & stay home Election Day - or vote for Jill Stein, & keep complaining how bad they are, while never calling out Republicans!” - 2/3 of the actual problem in the party; the other 1/3 are the hand-wringing do-nothing, play nice types.
I SO agree, and I call those OUT.
The democratic establishment is tiny, especially if Cuomo is the best candidate in all of New York
For all of our sakes, I hope you are wrong too! Progessive reformers can crush MAGA's putsch.
