I have never really understood arguments to buy a player based on why they will want to do well. They are professionals and want to do well every game! The reason players blank is very rarely that they didn't have a reason to want to get returns.

I see it as additional motivation rather than the fact that they’re unmotivated to begin with
And yet Chris wood always scores against his old teams. 😉 But yes I agree. It’s often back page headlines that mean nothing. Manager says ‘we must win this’ .
Palace assets turning up at Spurs both exact same motivation levels. I think it makes people over estimate a team like Forest at home in a derby vs Leicester who literally have nothing better to do than ruin Forest's season.
Vardy is going to give a bit more than usual in his last PL-game ever.
You reckon he hasn't been giving his all for the last decade?
I think his last game - that he chose to be GW 37 at home - ending his Leicester legacy - is something special. I also think that the best players rise to the occasion. Motivation is not permanent and for sure some games motivate more than others.
It would be interesting to see if anyone has done studies on whether such games do end up resulting in more goals.
I would almost guarantee that if they have, the answer is they don’t 😅
It’s nuanced and attributable to perceived motivations of players, end of season and players who play for clubs with no skin in the game are perhaps less motivated than they were 4 months back, injury avoidance and a nice summer off for many?
Premier League players tend to be motivated and competitive people. They've made it there where thousands haven't. They'd be competitive with each other even if it were playing "penny up the wall" for a bag of Quavers.
Well it's also about that everyone in that team will now try to do everything they can to get him on the goals. (Whether that's necessarily a positive is another question.)
Yeah, that's a factor. Wonder if the defenders also mark him more closely?
An interesting question, hadn't thought about that. They'll try double hard to wind him up, that's for sure 😂
I really hope he scores the 1 goal just to get the 200, but no more cause then I'll regret not buying him..
