I also really hate the 'I had to sneak it past my wife' for folk talking about buying new games. Is your relationship that fucking awful?

I understand if it's a budget issue or a game-buying compulsion (who among us?). But even that implies a communication rift and possible structural relationship issues/unshared labor

Indeed. Just talk about it for goodness sake. If you literally can't stop yourself buying games to the point where it is casuing issues in your relationship you need to seek help.
