I agree, the timing (and related optics) are especially bad. On the plus side, this might encourage consumers to try something from a smaller, Canada-owned company. (Crown Royal is owned by UK-based Diageo, a large multinational company.)

We need to support Canadian made and owned brands There is a long list of Canadian brands being sold to US and the value added chain being moved south - Bick’s Pickles The US has squeezed all the value out of the Canadian economy This is why I’m so pumped about what Carney is doing

I think this might be a golden era for new Canadian businesses, with consumers looking for homegrown alternatives. Case in point: Dog toothpaste. (When finished laughing please continue reading.) Not exactly rocket science, but my pet store only carries two options, both from the states.

Canadians are definitely learning which brands are still Canadian The US has moved production of supply chains away from Canada to the US No wonder we are so dependent on small Biz -

Right now much of it is retaliatory, defensive, AND justified, as we are dealing with an orange ogre who has pledged to break us economically so as to enable annexation. But I hope this will also blossom into an awareness of the importance of supporting the domestic businesses that support CDNs.
