I think some uses of plastic are probably justified. But I do have a problem with the degree to which it has permeated the planet, from its sourcing (oil) to the waste factor. I think we're only on the cusp of grasping its impact on living organisms (inc humans).

RIP Graham Greene. Every time he popped up on screen when I was a kid, my mom would excitedly point him out for being an actual Native on the screen. Able to be deadly serious and infinitely hilarious (even in smaller roles like Last of Us), he ate up the screen. Nʌki’wah brother.

To be fair, when the Dems have control they don't use their power to deal with the issue. Their last big effort was a temporary ban on certain firearms after Columbine during the Clinton administration. Since then, they've mostly cowered in the shadows.

Right now much of it is retaliatory, defensive, AND justified, as we are dealing with an orange ogre who has pledged to break us economically so as to enable annexation. But I hope this will also blossom into an awareness of the importance of supporting the domestic businesses that support CDNs.

I think this might be a golden era for new Canadian businesses, with consumers looking for homegrown alternatives. Case in point: Dog toothpaste. (When finished laughing please continue reading.) Not exactly rocket science, but my pet store only carries two options, both from the states.
Douglas Ogg (@dougogg.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree, the timing (and related optics) are especially bad. On the plus side, this might encourage consumers to try something from a smaller, Canada-owned company. (Crown Royal is owned by UK-based Diageo, a large multinational company.)
