Speaking of consent, I missed when Ellie granted the Fireflies permission to cut her up. I think people ignore their hasty disregard for it while she was unconscious because “it’s what she would have wanted.”

That was why I said Ellie had a choice. The Fireflies were wrong, but so was Joel. Neither party asked for her consent on her own life.

Didn’t Ellie tell Joel that she was ok with whatever needed to be done prior to going to the hospital? It’s been a while since I played the game. I think it was after the giraffe scene

She did, but she was a child. If your kid wanted to make that kind of decision, would you let them? I sure wouldn't.

she clearly wanted it to happen based how her relationship to Joel fell apart. Children grow up quickly in an apocalyptic world. She wasn’t Joel’s kid.

I don’t think any rational person would expect that to include a doctor intentionally killing them. If I said that I would be thinking things like “long painful recovery” or “permanent scarring” not “killed by a doctor who planned to do it without telling me first”

In an apocalypse? Obviously health care ain’t all that.

Then there will be the argument that Ellie was a minor and couldn’t legally give consent. Personally I’m satisfied to say this is fictional, enjoy the hell out of it and move on.
