You’re talking to someone who has a security clearance, believes very strongly in their responsibility, and knows of former coworkers who have been prosecuted under those laws. Trump has not violated that law by virtue of his Cabinet’s negligence.

It's a political question. It has nothing to do with the text in that it's explicitly not reviewable by the Court. If Congress can pony up the votes for impeachment, conviction and removal, then the officer is thus removed.
But trump is aware now. He has down played the significance, and not moved to hold HIS CABINET responsible. That makes him an accomplice, at least, and speaks to some increased cognitive decline. If he can’t see the damage to his image and the country, then his brain is not fully online.

They are also responsible. Signal is not rated for class material Celluar Devices are forbidden for this sort of conversation. Because of how they are vulnerable a case could be made that using them violates the Espionage Act (it's a reach, but that's not uncommon for such charges)
The other thing is not only is Signal not secure, it's not preserving the record of the conversation, which is a different set of laws. Since they all knew the chat was scheduled to self-destruct they were aware of that lawbreaking, and knowingly participated.
For me the record-keeping was the big issue. Signal's secure if everybody's device is secure (definitely not a given for either cellphones or PCs) and if you only use it to communicate with people you are sure are the people you intend to (definitely not true here :-)

As with Jack Smith's prosecution only focusing on some classified documents and not the total PRA violation, the entire crew were breaking the law by using Signal to evade record-keeping requirements for the meeting. And The Atlantic has now published the text.
But what is happening now? Where is the public and politic retribution? There is so much going on that maybe this also will be just another crazy thing that just happened. If they get away with this then I feel all is lost.
