Our biggest concern is that the Roberts Court is stupid enough to declare that he has the right to fire members of the Fed. Self interest should be enough to prevent that, but it should have kicked in after Jan 6, and signs are not great that they'll show sense.

I read an economist's take on this very question a few years ago. Her take was that the rich are their own country- they owe nothing to any nation, they feel no obligations. There are safe havens where they can live a beautiful life after they finish stripping assets -like the Russian oligarchs.

I think that's true, and it reveals extreme short term thinking. The rich are also dependent for their quality of life on the research, medicine, and social/ physical infrastructure that requires a large, prosperous, and well managed economy. It's delusional to think they can go it alone.
