Nice lesson, chuckling a bit. You talk about the youth in your classes not understanding the seriousness of nuclear annihilation & claim the early 80s had extremely high US-USSR tensions. You must not be old enough to have been alive in the late 50s & early 60s when tensions were actually high.

I am 63. I was in diapers during the Bay of Pigs crisis and, yes, I’m aware of how bad that was… even though my memory doesn’t go back quite that far. I started with the point that most of my students were born after 9/11. I feel old… it seems like yesterday to me. 😳

So I was kind of right. Just off by a year or two. Most kids don't feel national events until they're 5-8, depending on how much their parents are into them. That would be 1967 to 1971 for you. By the time you were in kindergarten, we weren't diving under desks any longer. Very good lesson, though.
