There is a huge difference between decentivizing destructive behavior by reducing the rewards people can gain for those behaviors and "govt takes full control of everything" I know media literacy is going downhill but damn. But hey if you've got a better solution we are all ears.

Where do these “rewards” come from? Because if the “rewards” are people making choices and you want the government to step in and control those choices? Congratulations! You’re a fascist.

The misinformation grift is as sudden and surprising as the sun rising in the morning. I did not think it had to be explained

If you think the misinformation grift is sudden, you haven’t been paying attention. Misinformation predates the printing press. Which means it predates the Constitution. Government regulation of the press doesn’t prevent misinformation - it just makes it easier for the gov to silence dissent.

So what is your solution? Do nothing and let grifters control the national narrative. Back when it was just the printing press you were stalled by the limits of needing a printing press. Today any jack with an Internet connection can flood lies to thousands instantly.

In the days of the printing press you got whatever lies were printed - and there was no easy way to get different opinions or verify what you were told. We have more access to facts now than at anytime in the past. The key is teaching people media literacy and how to research.

Did you just ask me if media groups, posting provable lies, do not get rewarded for doing so? Have you never heard of money?

Explain it to me professor. The original post was about the growing concern regarding the damages caused by right wing misinformation vomited by their media, and how there really aren't good answers to it. So how did I miss the point?

Was I commenting on the original post? Or was I commenting on a comment you made?

I figured it was implied that if you commented on a comment that you would keep the original context. Why tangent out a discussion like that for no reason?
