The most depressing part of Biden's loss is that he pursued the most left wing agenda possible, his economy increased wealth for the bottom quintile like no one has ever before. When this resulted in private burrito taxis getting more expensive, Americans rage knew no bounds.

And he was called a right-winger for all 4 years by a bunch of posers in Brooklyn and San Francisco.

Unemployment makes some voters mad at you inflation makes all voters mad at you.

I say this is someone who wants left Wing policies to be passed, all those people who say "I would pay more for a burger if the employees were treated better" - they will not want to pay more. That is critical to understanding any left-wing policies in the future.

I don't know what solution is here, aside from improved communications

The next sane president will be terrified of inflationary policies, the next recession will be a Larry summers style recovery, better to damage the careers of a generation of Americans than risk inflation.

Totally agree. No future president (or Fed chair) will ever allow significant inflation again even if unemployment is high. People care if they have a job. They don’t care if someone else does. Sigh

I’m having the realization that Larry Summers might be right *not because he’s right*, but because that is the most that you can do politically without paying the price

And conversely, Obama might be right about deploying lofty rhetoric but relatively restrained policy for the same reason

10% unemployment is fine as long as there isn’t 2% inflation. That’s the lesson we’ve learned.

People will always find something. Just the fact that Biden was old raised the bp of an entire generation to health-hazard levels

The amount of times I've read the phrase "looks like a walking corpse" today alone, and I'm like...have you bozos literally *never seen* an old person other than Joe Biden?

Definitely wasn't the most left wing possible, but it was quite progressive in some areas.

I think “possible” here means within the limits Congress and SCOTUS were setting, I don’t really see how Biden gets further left considering those limitations.

Things like changes to insider trading, minimum wage reform, election campaign finance reform, FDA reforms, his lack of critical response to Israel, his lack of support for Ukraine, measures to reduce or roll back gerrymandering, medicare reform etc etc. Some of this could've been done.

It's not within the Democrat party to do this though and some of it is definitely not in line with Bidens personal historical voting record. He was especially poor on Ukraine and J6 fallout imo.

and with no national health care there is a huge difference between "the economy was strong, stable and good for investment" vs shoving a chart in the face of the bottom 2 quintiles telling them their financial insecurity is all in their heads.
