My eldest's school would, technically, allow people to opt out of RE GCSE... Except they would not allow it to be replaced with an alternative GCSE, and they applied pressure to bright pupils who opt out, to take it anyway... And it's basically Xtian propaganda here (no comparative options)

They shouldn't complain, it did me the world of good, turned me into an atheist with the Biblical knowledge to argue against the ignorance of the Judaeo Christian dogma.
