And no one worried about a draft is old enough to consider accusations of Dems being peaceniks. They see a lot of failed foreign wars in their lifetime that had bipartisan support and that Trump very vocally critiqued if they were around in 2015/2016 (regardless of him lying then). It is unfortunate

Yea I get that’s what people are hearing, but if they’re unable to compare those statements to the reality around them, dem statements on being against the draft aren’t going to fix that. There will be a new TikTok fiction before they’re done recording the video

This is a bit much in defeatism IMO when the Dem support for Israel is causing most of the problem. It is the fact that they are constantly caught with bellicose soundbites rather than the substance of anything. They need to literally be talking about peace more often. Save war for helping Ukraine.

Hillary the hawk Donald the dove preceded Oct 7. Dems talk about peace constantly. Negotiated JCPOA. Support NATO. Again, the thing you’re talking about is people detached from reality in terms of what admins are getting US troops shot at

JCPOA is a good point to bring up because I fear that very few Gen Z know it existed or happened. I remember it being negotiated and signed, but I am an outlier. The characterization you mentioned also is due to the 2016 Iraq War statements / past perception, yeah. But *now* ME war is all Israel.

There are plenty of dem statements from the last 2 years on Gaza, on ending that war and working towards peace. On the contrary, there are plenty of saber rattling statements from r’s that say dems aren’t aggressive enough. Again, the issue is not “how can the dems be more pro-peace”

It’s “if you actually believe that republicans are more pro peace than democrats, you’re living in a fantasy land and potentially impervious to new information”

It’s not defeatism to say that democrats should be doing the right thing on FP and making the statements, but to scroll back to the top, Dem statements on “we won’t draft you” are highly unlikely to make a dent in people resistant to real information.

I agree there. There's a population that will never be reached by any Dem rhetorical changes or information. I know an awful lot though that I would say are reachable, and I think we may just disagree on the proportion there.

The people you think are reachable, are they worried about democrats drafting them?

They worry about both parties and see them as roughly equal on foreign war. I have seen this expressed, and I have seen a number of them vote for the Dems anyway because they have object permanence despite this fear of what I'll call "Iraq War Democrats" acting like the GOP does.

I hear you and thanks for the responses, but I’d like to point out that specific draft issue is kind of the point. Regardless of FP generally, the draft is a data point where there just is no reason to think that would happen other than online misinfo. Further, to attribute it to one side and

hey, so do you want to see the ballot selfie where I voted for Kamala Harris, or the posts where I have decried Trump as a fascist constantly, or do you want to shadowbox more for your fantasies

Nah, not interested, just pointing out how suddenly everything is the Democrats fault when they can not actually do anything to stop the shit that the gop does.

So besides the fact that you were totally wrong about me and you are pretending that you weren't, what I'm actually suggesting is a possible different strategy for Democrats to try. I don't care about being upset about Generic D #76 as long as they have a good idea now that works better.

Put differently, the above is not an issue that can be fixed with better messaging.
