It is going to take decades to recover from the damage of this administration. In fact, I do not think we will recover in any of our lifetimes.

It took 100 years to end Jim Crow. That's not even adding the years spent trying to undo the damage caused by Jim Crow. I don't expect to see recovery in my lifetime.

My oldest is 17, and she's learning her way around things. She knows her family and community history, but I still let her see, read, and hear things for herself. She'll come ask questions about things if she's unsure, but I don't expect her to get mesmerized by shiny objects that are worthless.

This thought has been in my mind as well lately. I just hope this country will recover in my children’s lifetime. (I’m not even sure there’ll be grandchildren and frankly, I can’t blame my kids. Faced with the same decision today, I might remain child free also.)
