It's a little weird to think about now that he's a beloved legend and all, but this was a pretty low point in Weird Al's career. Following up mega-hits (by his standard) like 'Eat It' and 'Fat,' 'UHF'-the-movie was not considered a financial success at the time, and the album didn't sell very well.

It's easy to blame the movie for the album's poor performance, but lots of flop movies have produced hit soundtracks. Like Al's other "flop" albums (Poodle Hat and Polka Party) UHF suffered by not having a zeitgeist-grasping single. "Money for Nothing" was 4 years old by then.
