Smart. I'm an extrovert and a promoter, so I just speak and somehow people like my ideas. It does help I've been doing the same work for 24 years so it comes second nature. That, along with critical thinking skills, allows me to calculate 10 steps ahead and ask questions to confirm my conclusions.

So you can have a big mouth like me but you have to be able to back it up with high quality deliverables She just fired her whole team and replaced them with junior sycophants. Except for her EA. I will be leaving soon but if I had her as a first boss not sure how I would have turned out!

That's rough. I've earned a lot of respect because I push back on my boss and make her think. She really likes that because she says it makes her better at understanding different angles. We butt heads at times, but all out of respect. We never get upset with each other.

That sounds like an amazing boss ❤️ and that is how I try to be I tell my team all the time to challenge me. It prepares me for discussions with senior execs. Nothing worse than not having thought of a key challenge, etc & I am not on the ground anymore so I rely on them. Lucky you so jealous

It's good you have that attitude. Now you just need to hire people who will let their guard down and feel like they can have that type of a conversation with you. I found the best way for my employees, was to keep asking their thoughts on a topic and what they think could be done better.

Thanks. A lot of my employees come from places where that wasn’t valued. And I am always trying to get them to give me their honest opinions. Funnily I tend to dislike employees who suck up. If everything I say is brilliant, you are not paying attention 😂😂😂

Exactly! They have to show an interest and ask questions. Show me your thinking and comprehending what I am explaining. It'll get you a lot more respect and responsibility.

It gets them more comfortable speaking their mind and, if you remain quiet, they will keep talking and not look for a response every few seconds. My manager does interrupt a lot though so I really have to tell her to stop and let me finish. We think alike, but from different angles so we usually

get to the same conclusion in the end. I am also a few steps ahead most of the time because I can think while I am explaining. Don't ask me how I do it though. I have no idea. LOL The one thing I am not good at though is planning and estimating. It's because of my TBI.

It’s probably how your brain works and you practiced it In work in diversity, somewhat, and I always tell ppl you can’t and shouldn’t be expected to be good at everything. That is why teamwork is so important! I want ppl who are different on my team. One of me is enough 😂😂😂

My brain makes connections that don't make sense to most people. I had to see an occupational therapist for my TBI and she had me do a puzzle. I figured it all out and had the right answers, but she told me I did it wrong. How do you do it wrong and still end up with the right answers?

😂😂. Probably a bad occupational therapist. I have training in psycho metrics, etc They are not good at measuring divergent thinking. You likely messed up her testing because she could not compare you to standard scores 😂😂😂 That’s her issue. She shouldn’t have told you you did it wrong

I had two types of amnesia at the time too. I only regained my memory after I started taking medical marijuana. The first night I took some, it was like playing a move in my head. I could visualize everything that came to mind. After that, certain words triggered my memory and it would flood back.

Should have guessed you were an extrovert 😂😂 I am the kind of extrovert who needs a lot of time alone to get centred in my own thoughts 😁 My current VP hates me. She comes from law enforcement so very top down. BUT she recently gave me key projects because the President loves my deliverables.

That's awesome! Good for you! I like to start off listening to what everyone else has to say and then open up. Except for a couple TBIs, I still have a really good memory. Not as good as it was, but still good enough to remember conversations word to word at times. It helps me with the thought

process and planning in my head. It sucks that I don't write it down though, but if I hear a trigger word, entire conversations can be played back in my head. The key is to understand all POVs, analyze them, pick what works well and define why something doesn't work, all at the same time. It's fun!

Of course. There is no replacement! I am politically savvy so there are things ppl will only tell you in person. And that is how you build trust as well. And sometimes you need to go on coffee break with a colleague just for a change of scenery! I do focus better at home, though.

I am not politically savvy. Although, people will tell me their life stories the first time I meet them. It's pretty funny. I also tell people that I don't play politics so they know ahead of time that I won't be backstabbing or repeating what they say. I end up being a mediator all too often.

It’s a bit sad but I think funny. I was recently being bullied by someone they fired 5 months ago and didn’t know! My team knew but didn’t tell me until after she was fired. She just kept bad mouthing me but I was focused on delivering and she didn’t I still DK how I didn’t see it 😳

Been there. One was forced to leave, another was fired and the manager moved to a completely different group once HR found out. Sorry that happened to you. Some people get very jealous. I tell everyone that I would never be good if I didn't make a lot of mistakes and learn from them.

😂 that’s good. It means you are likeable. I am usually well liked and will not backstab ppl. I am ethical. But I also know that the way to sell my idea to this VP is to emphasize legal obligations but this other VP care more about being cutting edge, etc I am never fake.

Watch your back then. Keep your eyes and ears open. Those are the types that like to steal other people's ideas as their own too. The problem with that is they're not able to articulate the idea as well as the original owner. I've been victim to that before and completely embarrassed the person by

asking them questions only I knew the answer to. Our manager would see right through them when that happened and know who the true owner was. It's sad people do it. I would have gladly shared my ideas and worked as partners. It's all about being a team player.

In some ways it’s scary but I wouldn’t have done anything differently. I know why they fired her. They knew they couldn’t lose me But my next job I am going to be more careful and look for a supportive team environment. My team is great but my peers aren’t. Which again goes back to bad mgmt

Might not be a bad idea if you can keep others from feeling like they have an advantage because you previously worked with them. There's always someone who feels disadvantaged or jealous of previous connections and thinks there might be favoritism. Emotions at work can be so annoying. LOL

Of course. Team work makes the dream work I am fortunate. My team I know has my back. And they felt there was no point in telling me since I was blowing her out of the water. Her team was 3 times the size of mine And she fought for my projects. Gave them to her. They were given back to me.
