this is also what gets me about people who go "Canada's full" no the fuck we aren't

tbh I think that with the invention of East Asian style high-speed metros like the Seoul GTX or Guangzhou line 18 I don't think that there's much of a practical limit on the size of cities now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_T... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Line_18...
Like the GTX A has an average speed of like 75 km/h, at an hour commute shed and the Seoul's population density of 2,000 / km2 in a perfectly circular city that's 36 million people, 4 million short of the current population of Canada lmfao.
Building proper regional rail in Lower Mainland BC would be totally revolutionary. It wouldn’t *solve* industrial land constraints for e.g. TransLink bus depots, but it would sure help with a lot of other stuff
I wonder which North American city will be the first to build an East Asian style High speed metro. Maybe Mexico City? Both NYC and Toronto have lower hanging fruit in the form of their legacy rail network.
BARTD’s core system as opened 1972-74
prooves elon was right- high speed public transit is the future
although proves him wrong on the fact that steel on steel is probably never going away short of cheap room temperature superconduction.
Fine so he got the detail wrong. He's the ideas guy. The important thing is the idea of high-speed mass transit, and how it could revolutionized urban systems. Kind of like it doesn't matter if the Internet comes over fiber optic, or copper wire, at the end of the day either system gets the job done
True, tho not everywhere (most of it) is conducive to habitation (aka most of the Canadian Shield aka most of the yellow part) But can Canada receive more immigrants, yes it can. Do we need to solve other things first to make it painless? No but they should be solved regardless.
I feel like even the yellow is cheating a bit — that population is weighted pretty heavily to the eastern bit, grabbing population from Quebec City and the Atlantic provinces. All that stuff to the west is _emmmmmmmpty_ empty.
One million Thunder Bayers
y’all aren’t full, but piling people into you will make humanity Weirder
wait what is up with Idaho
one of the eternal questions of life, really. scientists are trying to figure out why.
(cursed land, born in stupidity and greed, probably got ghosts)
I heard the yellow part was haunted
Canada has a lower population density than Russia, Kazakhstan, and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia is literally just a desert and has more people per square mile! Whereas Canada has huge tracts of pretty habitable land.
Admittedly “pretty habitable” is relative. My dad grew up in several northern towns (railway brat) and it would take a lot to get him to go back. But there’s absolutely shed loads of space to be had, especially on the prairies.
You're Canadian?
Let Atlantic Canada become the fifth colour!
literally if we were building at moncton's pace, we'd be there in like 3 years
Even the peninsula that Toronto is on is full of poorly utilized agricultural/residential land. Hell, just take the Toronto metro proper and apply Tokyo zoning to it and you could double the metro population easily.
the QEW is though
car bad, as it turns out
2nd biggest country on earth and like 90% of it is uninhabited lol
Most of the yellow is inhabited by Indigenous peoples on their traditional territories and includes the Canadian Shield, Arctic, and a whole bunch of peat bogs. Not exactly the kind of land that can support a lot of people, especially with long harsh winters of prolonged darkness.
could fit literally the rest of the anglosphere into it and still have space to go
wow even the livable part of canada is empty that’s hilarious
what do they do in the rest of Ontario?
