every once in a while it is baffling to see how many people think elections are based on mostly vibes instead of fundamentals
every once in a while it is baffling to see how many people think elections are based on mostly vibes instead of fundamentals
In fairness, I am perfectly happy to argue that vibes are as important as fundamentals, but also that the dork you're responding to is really really bad at vibes.
the democrats did not lose because of "critical theory" or adorno they lost because inflation was high and people were mad about it
Adorno being a hot topic on cable news and all….
As a friendly amendment, "and the media was banging the drum about it relentlessly" something they aren't doing now while inflation is basically the same as the second half of 2024 (and not yet reflecting all tariff, immigration and energy shocks)
They also remembered a check with Trump's name and had 30 years of being told he was good at business
Adorno's ghostwriting all the Beatle's songs causing Lennon to be shot is why Republicans won in 2024
People hate incumbent presidents, generally, something trump and biden both experienced If there was a real none of the above on the ballot, theyd have a dynasty : )
And bad. Good people don't vote for Republicans
Relatedly, they also lost because Biden fell off a cliff c. 2022 and couldn't mount a sustained vigorous defense to tie inflation to why we didn't go into a recession. Obama won reelection with like 8% unemployment.
Sure...it's the democrats fault that 78 million voters voted because they hate black and brown people.
Bullshit. They lost because more than half the country is racist, xenophobic, selfish, ignorant, and supremacist.
Vibes, in other words.
So mad, they chose to elect *checks notes* a felon insurrectionist who openly dismisses the democratic institutions, and who had spent his time promising even higher prices via tariffs. An unserious electorate.
I can't believe people look at *America* and think our voters are actually concerned about fundamentals LMFAO
Inflation wasn't high, at least not in the months immediately before the election. They were mad because inflation *had been high for a while 2 years before* and a mix of ignorance and malice in the media and apathy among voters combined to give the impression that it continued until prices fell.
it matters less that people don't understand that fiat money is supposed to inflate, or that it's the rate of change. It matters more that people don't understand that inflation is good for them. They don't think it caused their higher real wages. They think THEY caused it.
*smashes my placard reading “IT WAS EGG” on the table repeatedly*
So much of these complaints are based on that one interview clip about trans prisoners, and I’m sorry but if your standard for comms is “never have a statement that can be clipped to make you look bad to centrists” you’re just asking pols to never talk
I’m fully in on this being purely media environment and not the substance of comms. If saying weird shit in an interview in 2020 is campaign poison I would like to introduce you to Donald Trump and JD Vance
And between Harris giving that interview & 2024, Jan. 6 happened! But no, voters are clearly politics obsessives who still remember the bitter enmity between Sanders & Buttigieg in the waning days of the 2020 Democratic primary
*Between Sanders and Buttigieg supporters
“I was going to vote for the Dems but then the left started saying ‘unhoused people’ instead of ‘homeless people’ and I had to vote for Trump.”—not one voter anywhere in the USA
Oh, NOW you have made Tom the Beardo angry!
So not close...not. because barack obama was elected
More than that. They lost because they went on talking like everything was normal when more than half the country has lost contact with, or interest in, reality. Anger was cultivated into bloodlust. And Ds went on talking about the price of eggs
Manchin kind of had a point, I guess.
*Whispers: and being a BLACK woman.
And because the voters were racist and sexist.
But if I can't sell you the magic beans, who will harvest the golden eggs hmmm?
No, @kamalaharris.com lost because her white-supremacist "have we tried appeasing the fascists?" strategy wasted billions to alienate 95 million non-voters who love progressive policies & won zero Republicans. To win, reject fascism and tax the neofeudalists, as @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social did.
youtu.be/m8nevwr0vyQ?...
youtu.be/0WxHAs2E8Oc?...
they also lost because Biden, out of pure hubris, didn't exit the race in time for a real primary.
Well that and also this was the most brazenly interfered-with election in American history
bombings at Georgia polling sites, HELLO!!!! never mentioned again..
Not to mention the ballot vigilantes that the right had getting positions in every battleground state with the intent to challenge every single ballot they could in blue districts.
and we will see them again next year
And probably in substantially increased numbers too. 😓 Apathetic non-voters need to pull their collective heads out of their asses because non-participation is how we get another holocaust...
The disinfo and propaganda were off the charts for months!
Inflation really wasn't that high by the election. The whole recession thing was completely vibes
Harris was invisible as VP after crashing out in 2020 then had 4 months to run a campaign under the weight of an unpopular incumbent is the correct answer everything else is score settling
I’m not convinced she would’ve won no matter what she did but I am absolutely convinced it would’ve been closer if she hadn’t listened to dem consultants and made Walz stop calling republicans weird
they didn’t tell him to stop calling republicans weird, though. they were doing that the whole time. it just stopped being as prominent
This is not true
Yeah hindsight is 20/20 but if you're starting late and down a few scores you gotta open up the playbook
She was airing it out early and then weirdly went prevent. Again I think she’s probably hosed regardless but at the very least some downballot shit gets carried if she doesn’t turtle up
imo a lot of it came down to basically trying to scrape by in the swing states by the skin of their teeth and they did see improvements there (at the cost of losing share in bluer states, leading to his PV win)
I firmly believe that a lot of it was Lis Smith and her fellow ghouls
people on the left (me included) confused Dems not completely making a mess of the transition with it being a campaign that could overcome the fundamentals
Yep, there were two original sins, IMO. One was Biden should not have decided to run for reelection, and should have declared that early. The second was that Harris wasn't a great pick for VP to begin with. That being said, when he dropped out, she was the best choice at that time.
I think if he did #1, #2 would have taken care of itself with a fully fleshed out primary.
💯
Liberals: "Harris fumbled the election because she was too woke" Leftists: "Harris fumbled the election because she was too centrist" Me: "Kamala Harris did what she could managed to pull out a campaign in 4 months that despite the loss was way less crushing than it could (Red VA and NJ) respect"
-Fundamentals -Vibes -Campaigns -Policy In that order
Everyone is a pundit now and it sucks
