I'm already hearing Trump acolytes trying to justify it as chip manufacturing is essential to America's national security so OF COURSE the federal government should control it. Okay so the government gets 10% of Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, etc?
Public health is more plausibly a function of national security than chip manufacturing, but these same people shit their pants at the thought of a national healthcare system. Lots of countries are secure but don't manufacture chips domestically, Canada and the UK don't manufacture chips. So what?
The intellectual inconsistency on the right wing is just baffling. They can rationalize anything Trump does, even if it's something they called Democrats extreme for doing less, and even if their rationale is more appropriately applied elsewhere. They just do whatever they want and justify it later.
