Get rid of anyone over 65

I don’t think we should “get rid of anyone over 65. But I would support anyone over 70 voluntarily, stepping down from committees and mentoring younger leaders. Maybe after 80 voluntarily retiring.

Age is just a number. So if you can work till you are 98 then great.

I agree with that if the job is wood working, or writing a book, or a greeter at Walmart. But for many high stakes jobs you need to think long term. If RBG had retired in her 70’s she could have gone to teach new lawyers and passed on that knowledge and we wouldn’t have the current Supreme Court

If they can show they perform at the very top of their game for one of the most vigorous jobs on the planet, sure. Bernie is. Most are not.

I don’t know if Bernie is. His messaging (not the message) has gotten stale. I do like that he has been partnering with younger Dem’s to help keep the message alive.

He sent out a clear strong message just a few minutes ago. I can count on one hand the Dems who are even close to his passion, travel (he’s everywhere), message & support of younger voices.

I think Bernie is still rocking a 90% average which is far better than most. But given his age that can crash quick and the odds of him suddenly passing away are much higher than someone in thier 50’s. Dems have lost 3or4 votes in the house from people dying of old age.

It's a betrayal to your generation to live past 30. Die young and leave a good looking corpse.

Ageism. How about we vote for those who really do represent us and stand up for us at all cost, regardless of age.

Maxine Waters is 86 years old and facing off with ICE in LA while our lives depend on her and more like her who are MIA. We need that 86 yo right now!

But even she has to consider what her plan is. Statistics suggest she won't live long past age 90.

Term limits are different from saying everyone at age 65 becomes useless and unfit for public office. I can get on board with term limits. And, are any of us up to the task at hand? We don’t know. We haven’t done this before. But at least Maxine Waters is doing something.

We absolutely need term limits! I feel like the Senators in particular stay forever and just get richer and richer off the back of the working class.

It's not because their brains are slowly dying, though. Young people can always improve at driving with more experience.

I sympathize but your statement "If we can't trust old people to drive cars, we can't trust them to drive the country." is fallacious. It's an ad hominem argument. A person's ability to drive has nothing to do with their ability to govern.

When someone gets old enough that cognitive decline happens. It absolutely affects their ability to govern. There's a reason that the general retirement age is 65. The body and brain start to go downhill after that.

Gabe, my mother-in-law is 90 years old and has no problem driving. I do know the DMV does give drivers test to those over a certain age and I think that's a good idea. But just because someone is older doesn't mean they can't do things. I think the problem has more to do with term limits.

Just because they can do something doesn't mean they can do it well. I think the baby boomer politicians have done more than enough damage to this country. The first generation of Americans to leave the economy worse off for the future should probably step aside right now.
