I‘d wait until the cartridge release dropped before drawing conclusions though, this might be a counter-measure to prevent bootlegs before the official cartridge release drops.

Limited Run has long since burned through any goodwill with their various shady business practices. Besides that, encrypting the ROM (badly) has only exacerbated piracy issues that were always going to happen and is anti-consumer besides.
