Patrick DuSchane 10h • © Laura and I live next door to Annunciation. Our 3 year old started preschool at Annunciation on Monday. He was so excited and we were so excited for him. Then, at 8:27 yesterday morning, I received the scariest call of my life. Laura had just gotten home from dropping our son off and heard gun shots at our school. Hundreds of gun shots. As I sprinted to my car downtown, Laura (8 months pregnant with our second) sprinted to the school. She was there before any first responders arrived. Without hesitating, she ran into the school to find our son. She helped the teacher lock down the classroom, comfort the kids, and ultimately evacuate. Later she told me that she was worried about what happened in Uvalde; there was a 0% chance she was going to wait outside while officers figured out what to do. Her character was laid bare yesterday. She's an absolute fucking hero. She's the most incredible person I know. I'm so lucky to have her. And, we're so lucky to still have our son. Nobody should have to go through what we went through yesterday. There is no reason the families of the slain students should be without their babies. There is no reason the shooter should have had access to guns, which were purchased legally and recently. I grew up around guns, hunting with my dad. My dad was a good teacher. He taught me to respect guns and respect life. But not everyone receives that education. In fact it's remarkably easy to buy a gun in the state of Minnesota. As a responsible gun owner, it shouldn't be. There isn't some conspiracy here to take away your guns. There are reasonable gun ownership restrictions that should be put in place to prevent this from happening again. I will not rest until Minnesota adopts meaningful gun reform, and neither should you. NEVER AGAIN.

Sweet zombie jesus. That’s a gut punch. I don’t know how to even speak with anybody who thinks this kind of chaos and terror is preferable to some moderate restrictions on killing weapons. 😔

I am crying such ugly tears knowing that my little baby will start school in 2026. The part about remembering uvalde has fucking undone me.
