There’s no reason they couldn’t have posted his mugshot as-is. Darkening his skin was clearly meant to influence public opinion. Also at the time he was presumed innocent since he hadn’t had a trial yet, so it’s not right to publish an article implying guilt ahead of time.

Sure, but the fact that we *know* that darkening someone’s skin in this manner can be an effective way of creating doubt, mistrust, and Fear of the Other is proof of how deeply rooted this raciest construct is in our society.

Tbf, there was probably enough evidence to convict him and things like this may have led to enough doubt regarding racist conspiracy to lead to his acquittal.

Black men usually get their mug shot posted, if they did the crime or not. White men that murder their families get a picture of them on vacation with the family posted.
