There’s a police managed construction site on Bloor west of Symington causing a westbound bike lane closure… not ideal but it happens. Can anyone explain why construction workers’ personal vehicles are parked in the same lane east of Symington extending the closure by a block? #BikeTO

The construction industry runs this place. It's good to be king

Considering cops park in bike lanes all the time, and virtually anywhere else they want at any time, this is not surprising. I saw a cop parked fully on sidewalk blocking it completely the other day, no obvious reason why. Saw another double-parked, idling, facing against traffic at College/Yonge.

you'd think it'd be more sensible to cordon off some legal street parking spots for them nearby... but I think we all know why that isn't viewed as an option

Why free parking? It’s a transit accessible site and people in the area mostly don’t get free parking provided.

Imagine if they hired people to work on transit projects who actually took transit! It’s totally doable as these guys are using machines on site and even if they are coming in from the suburbs they could park and ride.

And if anyone still wanted to drive there are usually available paid parking spots across the street.

I don't disagree but I think even my incremental proposition would be deeply unpopular because local residents/business owners would complain a lot about "parking loss." (ironically, I lost parking in front of my place for this reason in Montreal for the first summer I lived there... survived😅).

Ahh I see. There isn’t much space to give away parking since residents already pay for monthly passes on the street. That’s why it’s weird to me that their illegal parking is tolerated.
