(I feel the same way about What Is Starfleet?: a documentary that wants to be anti-Starfleet. What if we're supposed to feel uncomfortable watching it? Supposed to be uncomfortable watching the "following orders" sequences?). Again, thanks for sharing. I do hear you. 😁

A problem with "What is Starfleet" for me was at the end it was like "imperialism is ok". It felt like apologia for American imperialism, which, as an American, I abhor. Four & a half Vulcans. The name itself is racist. It was less messy re: production. But so racist.

If we are meant to feel uncomfortable and not feel good about our Star Trek heroes, mission accomplished.

I totally hear what you're saying. If we were going to write an episode about racism, what would that look like/feel like? Thanks for sharing!

Well. For one, racist stereotypes would not be played for laughs. Commenting on Vulcan ears and human odor, in the Star Trek universe, counts as that. Also, it too frequently feels like Spock has to apologize for being either part human or part Vulcan. Or just being biracial in general.

Ok, I hear some things you don't like about the episode (and our country). I'm not disagreeing. What would an episode on racism look like/feel like? Where would we take the audience? This isn't a question that needs an immediate response. Might be something to ponder over weeks, or a lifetime.
