Still. These weren't the Liverpool of last season or the Man City of old, were they? And I can't help feeling that we've missed an(other?) opportunity. And I'm not sure when/where it's going to change. (Really enjoyed the Arsecast Extra about the game π΄βͺ)

(with possibly my favorite play from Arsenal, Pires skinning Gerrard before passing to Freddie at the near post). I know football is different now; at the same time, I've not yet seen this team show that kind of fortitude. I don't know why and full appreciation to Arteta for getting us this far.

When we broke the door down in 2002, we had a crucial trip to Anfield where we hadn't won in some time. It was December, I believe, so a little different. And we scored two goals after van Bronckhorst's 2nd yellow in the first half...

What I might say is maybe half of the teams in the NFL haven't cared about winning for 5 years or even a decade. Are we fascinated with the circus? What does that say about us? π€π

Why do people watch the NFL when, for 5 years (and as many as a decade ... or more), at least half of the teams haven't cared about winning? What's the attraction?

For me, Lower Decks is wonderful. While it's having a good time, it looooves Star Trek. (and animation allows it to do things actors can't -- including bringing back so many people from various series/movies π)

Diversity, including that of background and of experience, is so necessary to do anything constructive, to solve problems, for a society to refresh itself. Otherwise (and are we seeing a bit of it now?), there's stagnation. I think.

Ok, I hear some things you don't like about the episode (and our country). I'm not disagreeing. What would an episode on racism look like/feel like? Where would we take the audience? This isn't a question that needs an immediate response. Might be something to ponder over weeks, or a lifetime.
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
Yes!
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social)
I feel like What Is Starfleet? is a primer on how to watch Four and a Half Vulcans. Parts of a SNW whole. (I also think the episodes ask - intentionally or not - whether we can keep our hearts open, even with this). ππππ₯
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
Put another way: If we were writing an episode on racism, what would it look like/feel like? Where would we want to take the audience? What would people feel? There are some deep, deep questions to ask in the wake of this and last week's episodes. Questions that deserve time & space to arise.
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
(Is the title Four and a Half Vucans racist? Is it supposed to be?). What happens as the story progresses and others stand up to the "Vulcans"? What does this say about them? What does it say about us?
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
I see you! π€ Some questions that we might ask: What are we, like in last week's documentary that wanted to be anti-Starfleet, supposed to feel while watching? (Initially there is laughter, why?). Don't we feel Spock's pain? Are we supposed to be uncomfortable with that? Angry?
patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
I hear you. Thanks for sharing. If we were to write an episode on racism, what would it look like/feel like? What would it feel like for those watching it? (maybe this is about whether we can keep our hearts open even now) Thanks for allowing space for discomfort and questions

I feel like the writers are using subtlety and nuance, and I love that. I also understand that, with what's going on in the world, subtlety can get lost. (In a way, it's asking whether we can keep our hearts open even with this). I totally appreciate what you're saying. Thanks for the reply ππ₯

patos heridos (@mcd410x.bsky.social) reply parent
Thanks much! Now that I think about it, of course the sensor isn't 2" (I do have an old 5D with full sensor, but it doesn't have live view, etc., and probably wouldn't use it here). (I've been using a cellphone mount with my 8" Dobson: works great for eclipses, less well in low light (: ).

This is great! Quick question, if I may: I've never attached my camera (77D) to my telescope. If I'm going to start simple, focus on planets, what do you think? 2" adapter? 1.25? Both? (I imagine 2" is slightly bigger than the sensor -- could be a problem?) Thanks!
