pointedly, like, historical miasma theory was a decent approximation of germ theory (especially for people who didn't have microscopes!) rfk's "miasma theory," in contrast, only exists as an excuse to reject the correct conclusions of germ theory

Yeah I remember early during the COVID-19 epidemic when some historians/epidemiologists were saying stuff like “miasma theory was dead wrong but weirdly it encouraged somewhat useful interventions, like increased ventilation”
