I say this based on a typical American learning a tiny bit about 2 types of court process in school: 1. the US Supreme Court & its role in constitutional questions 2. criminal trials & due process (again, a little) leaving most of our complicated legal system totally opaque
to be clear, IANAL! but I did work for the CA Judicial Council for 4 years - it was extremely eye opening coming from the base outlined above
