Japan broke it's All-time NATIONAL heat record for the 2nd time in... checks notes... less than a week! It's not coincidence. It's climate change. Japan is surrounded by the most anomalously hot water on the planet right now. The city of Isesaki hit 107 - it's in a valley NW of Tokyo. 1/

Claiming no research-based solutions exist ignores decades of peer-reviewed science. Believing anti-science propaganda—even unintentionally—is still anti-science because it rejects tested evidence.

This rolling catastrophe has momentum. Once we stop adding carbon to the atmosphere, temps will continue warming for quite a while. So we need to stop ASAP.

I think we've passed the point of repair. Scientists were yelling to the rooftops about emissions & games breaking the ozone. Industry continued. So we've passed the warning point. Now just wait & try to live with it!

Sure...we're in a hole. A deep one. We can still stop digging. There will be damage which wouldn't have occurred if we'd have stopped 15 years ago. There will be damage which wouldn't have occurred if we'd stopped 30 years. Unfortunately, we can't start from where we want to be. We are where we are.

For sure, we're well into warming which will take hundreds of years to reverse. Now we're just trying to limit and mitigate the damage while building a more adaptable infrastructure.

"Now just wait & try to live with it!" As a global humanity, we will have to learn to live with the irreversible damage that has already been caused, so we will have to focus on those things that can still be saved and, with luck, partially reversed with the help of technology.

But we have a lot of power, as much power as the anthropogenic climate change can be stopped immediately through the criminal crime of burning fossil waste, and in this way, an intensification of the climate catastrophe can be slowed down. This is a question of decision.

We have the technology, it's a question of will. The tech isn't experimental, and it's being manufactured at scale. We just need to do it.

avatar
Charisse 🦋 @sabjoy7.bsky.social

Ok, but industry would have had to slow down around 2010! They did not. Scientists warned that we were passing the threshold! Now we see complete climate change & i doubt you can stop the effects when you've already made the damage!

John B Des Moines @john-b-des-moines.bsky.social

There's a certain amount of uncertainty, always. The main thing is that we stop as soon as possible...even if we're perilously close to really severe disruptions. We really can't make it better, but we can continue to make it worse.
