Bizarre coincidence but > I had a relative who was born and lived most of her life in Coniston > Campbell also raced at Brooklands and I live on the finishing straight of the old track!

Awesome, I love Brooklands. Sir Malcolm Campbell raced at Brooklands, and he was the first to set a water speed record on Coniston Water, in 1939 - Donald was there in the support team that year

Ullswater was less suitable as a record venue due to the dogleg. Donald went there only once, in 1955 - partly in the hope that the weather would be better than Coniston, but mainly because the Wakefield family owned land by the lake and offered support to Campbell if he made a record attempt there
